いつも始まる前に英語で説明出来るように一通り練習しますが、英語での説明が上手く出来ない表現や、助けを必要になることも(笑)(^^;;
Usually I practice explaining things on English but sometimes there are some difficult words and need to help saying something in English.

甘辛煮。
Amakarani
これを英語で説明すると一言では言えません。
I can’t say this in one word in English.
さとう、みりん、醤油、酒を入れるので甘いと言ってもさとうとみりん。辛いといっても醤油、、、
日本の「辛い」はしょっぱいも辛いというし、からしや唐辛子なども辛いといいます。
I added sugar, mirin, soy sauce and cooking sake in a pod. “Ama” means sweet. “Kara” means salty.
If they get together “amakara”, can you imagine the taste!?
Japanese can do.

“Ni” means boiling or simmering.

「甘辛煮」というと日本人はどんな味が大体想像がつきますが、外国人だとわからない方もいます。

なので、「甘辛煮」という英語を作ってしまえばいい(笑)
When we say “amakarani”, we can imagine the taste but non-Japanese who don’t know Japanese foods so much, I don’t know if they can.

So it’s good to make a word “amakarani” as a English word! Lol!

幸い今日は奥様が日本人の香港の方で日本食が多少ご存知だったので多少は伝わったのかなと。
もう一人は日本人だったので問題なし。
Fortunately one student was Chinese whose wife is Japanese. And the other student was a Japanese so probably no problem?

そして、こんにゃくの甘辛煮を作る際の
「落し蓋」の説明が上手く出来ませんでした。。反省。
And I couldn’t explain “otoshibuta” in English so much… I’m sorry…

「煮汁が少ない時に落し蓋をすると全体に煮汁が行き渡りやすいから。
煮立ったら、落し蓋についた煮汁がすぐにこんにゃくに落ちて味が染み込みやすくなるから。」
I wanted to say that

“when you use a little stock soup to boil and the foods are sticking out from the soup, it’s better to use drip lid to cover the food with the boiling soup.

Because when it boils, the soup sticked on the lid drips down the food and easy to get the taste inside. ”

I don’t know if you can still get it.

So they came to the kitchen to see how is the thing happening inside of the lid.
と説明したかったのですが、、実際に火のところまで来てもらい、見て理解してもらいました(^^;;

Drip down という単語をつかえば良かったのですね。香港の方から教えてもらいました(^^;
The Chinese guy taught me to use the words “drip down” for explaining it.

私もここで英語勉強させてもらっています。
I’m studying English here too!
Thanks !!

出来上がりは、
3品とも失敗なく、美味しく出来ましたので一安心。
I could make three dishes pretty good, I think!

食事の際は夫とさくらちゃんも一緒に参加。
My husband and Sakura joined together when we were eating.

特にこんにゃくの甘辛煮は、普段はこんにゃくはあまり味がしないのにこれはしっかりついていて良いと言って頂けたりして良かったです。
One guy said konnyaku no amakarani was good because usually it doesn’t taste so much but this has good taste inside.
I’m so glad to hear that.

鯖の味噌煮も煮崩れなくいい味に
なったと思います。
The simmered mackerel didn’t break up since it’s simmering for a long time, which was good.

四人で歓談しながら頂きました。
We had these dishes talking about many things.

香港の方には昔趣味だったカメラのポートフォリオをお持ちいただきみんなで鑑賞。(昔私がアートコーディネーターだったことをこちらで読んだからだと)
人物を撮るのがお好きだそうです。
普段の顔、人の内面やパッションを撮りたいとおっしゃっていました。
写っていた方々は近所の方や友達だそうですが、モデルみたいにみんな輝いていてイキイキとしていました。彼の眼が鋭いのでしょう!
He brought his portfolio of photograph which was his hobby long time ago. He said he wanted to show it to me because I was an artcoordinater before. LinkedIn
He loves to take photos of people.
He said he wants to focus on their passion which come from their daily faces. The models were his neighbors, friends etc but they look like real models! Their eyes are all brightened and lively! I bet he is observant and has sense of art!!

日本に行って素晴らしい紅葉を見てから、昔のカメラの趣味をまた再開したいとおっしゃっていました。
He said he wants to do his hobby, photography again since he went to Japan to see beautiful and colorful autumn leaves!

料理している時も楽しいですが、こんな風に皆様と会話をしてお互いの好きなことを話し合うのもとても、好きです。
I’m enjoying cooking and teaching to them but also happy to hear about their stories they love!

やりたいことをお互いシェアして、実現していける場になったら素敵だろうなぁ~
I think it would be very nice to communicate and share our favorite things and dreams here!

あ、このホームページで紹介するのもいいかも!
彼のポートフォリオ、写真で撮っておけば良かった、、ごめんなさい。
次回があれば、また持ってきて欲しいと思います。
Oh, I have an idea! It would be nice to write their dreams and things they want to share on this blog!
I should have taken his photos of portfolio to put on my blog!
I wish he could come again..
今後は、3月14日にお弁当レッスンを。唐揚げ、おにぎり、卵焼きなどなどをします。台湾人の方四名予約済み。
